Although we are theoretically a mixed male and female side, in reality all the dancers are female. This used not to matter as the kit was the same for the boys and the girls 🙂 BUT — since now we have the new red-and-black themed kit some of the girls are wearing SKIRTs (shock horror!!).
Our first kit used to be coloured t-shirts, black breeches, red socks and red clogs. Some dancers used to wear berets that toned with their shirts. This kit was worn in the 1980s and 1990s.
Sometime in the 2000s (noughties?) we moved towards rainbow stripes on the socks and pullovers, and the dancers developed individual designs for the backs of their waistcoats, reflecting their interests such as gardening, or just designs that pleased them. It all got a bit psychedelic…..
At the end of 2013 a vote was held and the decision was made to change to a red-and-black theme, but retaining the individual waistcoat designs. So now the kit consists of:
Red clogs, with bells on, black breeches OR a black skirt with red underskirt or petticoat (or black shorts — naughty Helen!), red Annies T shirt, black waistcoat, customised on the front and back in any way you choose, red-and-black striped socks or leggings, and optional extras including headgear, bracelets and strings of beads, and of course a big smile! We think this looks a bit tidier but still allows for individual expression. We hope you like it as much as we do! Have a look in the Gallery for more pictures of us…..
